NO13- THE LIPSTICK.

Every outfit needs that finishing touch, and on a grey day nothing will lift your mood like a good lipstick. If you are not used to wearing lipstick and worry that it might not suit you- don't worry. With countless shades and qualities out there, there really is something for everyone. First of all you need to consider your lips for a moment; are they prone to be dry? Then a moisturising lipstick would be preferable. Do you usually wear a lot of make up? If not, you should probably choose a more natural hue. Do you want a sparkly, matted or shiny lipstick? These are all factors that need to be considered before you approach the lipstick jungle. And don't forget to invest in a good primer for a smoother look!

The bold- When it comes to lip colour you can hardly go more classic than red. With icons like Marilyn Monroe and Gwen Stefani favouring this statement lip, how could it possibly be anything but fabulous? Make sure to try it on before purchasing to make sure you get a shade that suits your skin tone.
This bold red lipstick is from Dior, Dior Addict Extreme (Fireworks 756) £24.

The subtle- If you usually hardly wear make-up an everyday shade might suit you better, with a good lipstick you don't need anything else. If you are looking for a lipstick to last throughout the day a moisturising quality is preferable.
This moisturising lipstick is from Clinique, Chubby Stick Moisturising Lip Colour Balm (Mega melon) £17.

The gothic- If you are looking for a more gothic look with a hint towards old Hollywood glamour there are several shades to choose from. Dark reds, browns and purples will all give you that vintage look, but the best way to know which one you prefer is once again to try them on. Just how dark you want to go is up to you, but try and go for a matted colour since a shiny dark lip can easily be a bit too much.
This creamy purple hue is from Chanel, Rouge Allure Luminous Satin Lip Colour (Elegante) £26.

The girly- If you are more comfortable in 'girlier' blush tones you should continue that theme with your lipstick. Whether you choose to compliment your look with a bright pink or a blush tone, a pink lip will never go out of style.
This long lasting bright pink is from M.A.C, Pro Longwear Lipcreme (Love Forever!) £18.

NO12- THE BOOTS.

There it one pair of shoes you can always rely on- your boots. They will save your feet from rain or snow, as well as always making sure that you look good. Choose a durable material like leather and a colour that will work with everything you own. Once again- brown or black? The boot is a great go to-shoe that works all year around with everything from dresses to denim. An ankle-height boot is recommended if you want to get a lot of wear out of them, since higher boots over trousers only works if the trousers are skin tight. How do you wear your boots?

The punk boots- Made popular by the skinheads in the early 1970's, this boot is a true classic. They now come in all kinds of materials and styles, which makes this a great way to add some personality to your outfit. A personal favourite of mine that only grows cooler looking and more comfortable with time.
These unisex punk-classics are from Dr Martens, £100.

The heeled boots-
The whole point in the staple boot is comfort, you want to be able to walk a mile in them. So if you prefer a heeled boot, choose one with a wide heel or even a wedge heel. A heeled boot is a great going out-shoe as well as an everyday outfit staple. Do make sure to keep an eye out for when it is time to get them re-soled so they don't get ruined.
These retro-chic boots are from See by Chloe, £295.

The cowboy boots- When someone says cowboy boots it's usually not the pretties image that springs to mind. However, the cowboy boot is making a comeback with new and reinvented styles that just hint towards the wild west. Great if you prefer a more boho-chic look or secretly miss your 90's cowboy boots.
These fringy boots are from AllSaints, £178.

The Chelsea boots- This more sleek looking boot is great if you prefer a classic style. These boots will never go out of style and works with basically anything. Make sure to go for a good quality pair and they will be your feet's best friends.
These suede-trimmed leather Chelsea's are from Marc by Marc Jacobs, £380.

NO11- THE SKIRT.

There is hardly anything (apart from possibly a good lipstick) that will make you feel as feminine as a skirt. They come in all shapes, textures and colours, and look amazing on any figure. It is up to you just how fitted you want to go, choose something that you are comfortable in and that is flattering on you. When it comes to material you can either choose a classic fabric skirt, or be a bit more daring and choose an alternative look. Leather, if used right, is a great way to make your outfit a bit edgier. Be careful to choose one that doesn't scream sex though, to make sure that you can get a lot of wear out of it. Once you have figured out what material you want to go for and what fit you are most comfortable in, it is time to decide what length you want.

The mini- The more common choice for young adults, but not necessarily the most versatile. If worn right this length can be worn for most occasions, but even though it is now socially acceptable in most places there are still times when it is considered inappropriate. With that being said, some simple play with proportion and juxtaposition can take the sex out of your outfit. A more playful version will give it a quirky look and add character.
This fringy mini is from Zara, £29.99.

The midi- This tends to be considered a more mature length, but it is slowly making a comeback. Looks best when fitted and showing off your curves. Wear it with a revealing top to convey a feel of sophisticated sexy. This length is great for wearing around the clock; with a shirt at the office, then with a slinky cami at night.
This paint-splattered midi is from Proenza Schouler, £815.

The maxi- Once again, it is a total myth that you have to be tall to pull off a maxi-length. With the right style anyone can look gorgeous in one. If you are conscious about your hips and behind a floaty version might be just perfect for you, or if you are conscious about your stomach or bust a fitted maxi might help draw the attention away from your problem areas. The only way to know what suits you best is to start trying them on!
This bias-cut maxi is from Mint Velvet, £79.

The skort- If you're not completely comfortable in a skirt it's time to consider a skort. This short/skirt hybrid will give you the sexy look of a mini, as well as not forcing you to pinch your knees together at all times.
This jacquard skort is from New Look, £17.99.

NO10- THE HEELS.

There are several reasons to wear heels; you gain height(nobody can be too tall), you look slimmer, it makes your legs look amazing, and if you can walk in them properly you get a better posture. It is that one detail that can take your look from daytime to eveningwear. They may be painful but they look so good! It is up to you what height, width and style you are comfortable in. But no matter how much you love your flats, there is no staple like the heels.

The stilettos- There is probably no sexier or more painful shoe than the stiletto. The slim heels are probably more suitable for someone who's used to wearing heels, but with a bit of practice anyone can pull them off. These classics go with anything at any hour of the day and are guaranteed to add a hint of sex to any outfit.
These sexy python heels are from Christian Louboutin, £895.

The chunky heel- Probably the most comfortable style that is great if you are wanting a shoe you can dance in all night. Team them up with a fitted, feminine look for a stylish juxtaposition.
These quirky pumps are from MiuMiu, £445.

The strappy sandals- If you are looking for a shoe that looks fantastic with literally anything, this is it! It may be a bit cold in winter, but you will look amazing. Go for a simple colour like black, brown or nude (depending on the colours in your wardrobe), or if you prefer choose an eye-catching colour like cobalt blue or fuchsia.
These timeless patent-leather sandals are from Saint Laurent, £530.

The heeled boots- No matter what heel you choose, these boots will work all year around. Make sure to choose a height that you are comfortable with. Great with your favourite dress on a summer night or with your favourite coat when it gets cold.
These heeled suede boots are from Burberry, £595.

The peep toe- A great in-between if you can't decide between a strappy sandal and a court shoe. A style that never goes out of fashion, and will work at any time of the day and year.
These peep toe beauties are from Kurt Geiger, £130.

NO9- THE JUMPER.

When it comes to knitwear it can be difficult to find that perfect jumper. The one that isn't too itchy, that's not too tight but not too loose, that's got the right neckline and length, and that is thin enough to fit under your coat but thick enough to keep you warm when it's freezing outside. There are a lot of boxes to tick when purchasing your staple jumper, but once it's found it will save your day more than once. Be sure to look at the care label before purchase, and if possible try and purchase knitwear in store rather than online. This way you can try it on and feel what it will feel like on your skin (there is probably nothing worse than wearing an itchy jumper). Try and opt for natural fibres; cashmere is costly but will feel wonderful on your skin, where as wool is a cheaper option that can sometimes be itchy but will keep you warm. Merino wool is very soft and tends to be less itchy, new wool(or virgin wool) is wool that has been spun for the first time. Overall sheep wool come in many different forms, and it is up to you as a consumer to decide what feel you are after. Alpaca or angora wool is used more as a decorative material because of its "hairy" look, however there has been a lot of controversy surrounding angora making it more difficult to find in shops. When you do choose your staple jumper, make sure it goes with the rest of your wardrobe but above all reflects your personality. Jumpers should be personal!

The silly knit- A silly jumper can be a good way to lighten the mood for a monochrome outfit. A lot of mellow tones and sharp lines can easily be seen as quite strict, but with an infusion of a silly print your outfit gets a quirky twist. Just how silly you want to go is up to you, but the sillier you go the more important the fit. In order for the jumper to be silly in a chic way, it is important that the fit is flattering. A slightly fitted shape will convey the right message and make sure you don't look like you're on your way to a bad Christmas jumper party.
This quirky peacock jumper is from Biba, £65.

The simplistic knit- If you are looking for something to simply keep you warm and look good a simplistic jumper will do the trick. Aim for a fit that looks flattering on your body and a neckline you are comfortable with. The colour should be neutral and work with the rest of your wardrobe.
This slouchy beauty is from Weekday, £35.

The turtleneck knit- If you want to stay as warm as possible a turtleneck is recommended. Perfect if you want to avoid ruining your look with a chunky scarf, yet not get a cold. In order for it to not look too strict, try and go for a looser fit. However, if you are quite busty a turtleneck can have an enlarging effect.
This cosy jumper is from 1205, £340.

The oversized knit- Perfect if you are not comfortable in bodycon clothing. This style is great for a layered look, and will work for all shapes and sizes. Wear with skinny bottoms and either boots for a daytime look, or heels for night time.
This splash of colour is from Monki, £20.

NO8- THE LBD.

With the risk of being boring, I am gonna have to use the LBD as one of the 13 staples. It has obviously been stated more than once, but you really can never go wrong with a Little Black Dress. With it being such a classic you have free range to choose one that reflects your personality. Do consider the fabric before purchasing to make sure that you are getting a versatile piece that will work both at cocktail parties with a sexy pair of heels, as well as layered up for a chic everyday look. It is up to you just how skimpy you want to go, with this classic the sky is the limit.

The spaghetti strap LBD- A very sexy style that will definitely turn heads as well as being plain enough for you to endlessly update with accessories. This stunner is the definition of timeless and will never disappoint. Wear it with simply anything and focus on accessories for a temporary look for any event.
This simple spaghetti strap dress is from the Row, £675.

The long sleeved LBD- If you have a tendency to be chilly, or simply prefer to cover up, the long sleeved LBD is the perfect choice for you. Choose one with fun detailing to make it look less ordinary, but be careful to not choose something too temporary. Great for the colder months and evening wear, but if you go for a lighter fabric it will work great in spring and possibly summer as well.
This twist-detail long sleeved dress is from Helmut Lang, £250.

The strapless LBD- Is there anything more feminine than a strapless dress? I doubt it. Get that elegant look with a strapless LBD and strappy sandals, or simply layer it up for a daytime look. Do make sure that you can move and breathe properly in your dress, there is nothing sexy about not being able to sit down.
This classic-look strapless dress is from Halston Heritage, £410.

The embellished LBD- If you prefer something more daring embellishment is what you need. Whether you prefer beading, embroidery or feathers, this is a great way to add texture to any outfit all year around. You will definitely stand out at that cocktail party, just remember that less is more when it comes to accessorising a dress like this.
This feather-embellished mini is from Lanvin, £2,415.

The fitted LBD- Sometimes a sexy little dress feels just right, and it doesn't come any classier than in black. Try and focus on revealing one area at the time. Either bust or back, never both at once. Remember, you want to look sexy not cheap. Wear with a blazer and stilettos for a sexy dinner look.
This fitted LBD with sexy detailing is from Haney, £1,860.

NO7- THE HANDBAG.

Let's face it- women are obsessed with handbags! We all look for that Perfect One until we find the next Perfect One, then feel bad about all of our past loves gathering dust. The solution? Don't settle! It does sound too good to be true, but the reality is that if you weren't spending all that money on different handbags you could buy the Perfect One. So get on EBay and sell your past loves, they deserve better and so do you. Invest in a designer handbag of premium quality that will work with the rest of your wardrobe and that will stand the test of time. Once again, the choice of colour is very important. Go for a simple muted colour, since light colours are prone to scuff marks. The choice of material is also very important; suede is gorgeous but will never survive the British climate, no matter how much you spray it with suede protector. I recommend leather with a sturdy lining. Next you need to consider the size and style. What are you comfortable with?

The tote- If you are looking for the ultimate everyday bag that is both chic and holds all of your stuff, a tote bag is the perfect choice. Do make sure to choose a tote that suits your personality as well as being work appropriate. It is a fine balance but once you find it, it will last you a life time.
This timeless staple is from Saint Laurent, £2,090.

The hobo bag- A slightly more relaxed look that will still work for more upscale events. This style gives you that boho-chic touch as well as a more effortless look. Brown leather might seem like the obvious choice if you are looking for a boho-chic look, but if you prefer you can definitely rock it in black as well. Perfect if you don't want to go all-out boho look, but want a slight hint of it.
This effortless boho-style bag is from Diane Von Furstenberg, £300.

The baguette- If you don't usually cram your bag full of old receipts, snickers wrappers and diverse beauty products you never use- well done! Since you have no need for a gigantic handbag, why use one? Instead go for a beautiful baguette style handbag that will complement your outfit beautifully.
This glamorous baguette bag is from Biba, £139.

The satchel- If you love that retro feel a satchel with work perfectly both at work and in private. With plenty of space for both documents and whatever you usually carry around, this sturdy classic will definitely not let you down.
This retro-look satchel is from the Cambridge Satchel Co, £120.

The rucksack- An old favourite that has turned into somewhat of a fashion statement, the rucksack(or backpack) is definitely an edgier choice of everyday bag. You will never run out of space, and your back will thank you for it, but can you pull it off?
This slightly larger rucksack is from Dr Martens, £195.
