NO6- THE LEATHER JACKET.

A lifesaver all year round, if you don't have a leather jacket it is time to get one. Whether you mix it with chunky knitwear and boots on a cold December day, or your favourite dress and sandals on an evening in July, there will never be an occasion where this staple does not work.
Something to consider when you do choose your jacket is what kind of leather you want to go for. Italian Napa leather is a very soft and thin leather which will help avoid that 'restricted' feel that can be off-putting for first-time buyers. It is generally a slightly more expensive leather, but keep in mind that this jacket will probably last you a lifetime.
The perhaps most frequently used leather is the cow's leather. It is a bit stiffer and thicker, but will soften up slightly as you wear it. This is generally a cheaper option that will last just as long as the more expensive options.
The other thing you need to consider is the colour you are going for. A coloured leather jacket can look amazing with the right outfit, but it is also very restrictive as to what you can wear with it. Go for a basic colour if you are looking for a truly timeless piece and ask yourself; black, white or brown?

The fitted jacket- The most feminine option that will work with any outfit. Use it to juxtapose that floral dress of your, or go rock-chic with your favourite boots and a band tee. Flattering for any shape and size, and if you are gonna do a coloured leather jacket this is the style to do it in.
This fitted jacket with buckle detailing on the collar is from AllSaints, £278.

The biker boyfriend jacket- When it comes to pulling off this fit, it is all about proportion. A chunky jacket needs balanced out with skinny jeans/trousers, or a feminine sheer skirt/dress. It is also not to recommend if you are looking for a slimming effect, since this style can do the exact opposite. That being said, if you do team it up with the right outfit you've got a killer look.
This classic biker style is from Pins & Needles, 175.

The cropped jacket- A more temporary take on the classic which works best as a layering piece. Wear either with high-waist trousers or a variety of lengths and materials. This is definitely more of a fashion piece than a classic, and might therefore not stand the test of time as long as the other styles. However, if you do prefer a more fashion-forward look this is definitely a great choice.
This cropped biker-look jacket is from ASOS, £50.

The leather coat- If you are used to wearing a sleeker look and have no interest in mixing it up with a biker-look leather, a simple leather coat might suit you better. This way you get to keep that simple, chic style as well as introducing a new material to your wardrobe. Great for both night-time and daytime, at work or on a day out. This staple can be worn with basically anything, just add attitude and a chic lipstick!
This clean-cut leather coat is from AllSaints, £798.
